William Lee is a native of Portland Oregon (USA), and has an
MA in Central and East European History and a Ph.D. in Russian History, both
from the School of Slavonic
and East European Studies, University College,
London. His dissertation was
entitled “Grand Ducal Role and Identity as a Reflection on the Interaction of
State and Dynasty in Imperial Russia.”
He has spent
many years researching the life of Grand Duke
Dmitry Pavlovich, one of the murderers of Rasputin, and is currently working on a biography of Dmitry,
together
with Coryne Hall, who is author of "Little Mother of Russia," "Imperial
dancer," and "Once a Grand Duchess" (with John van der Kiste). Coryne
and William are represented by Doreen Montgomery of
Rupert Crew Ltd., London.
William
is also working with Prince David Chavchavadze on a
translation of the 1917-1918 correspondence of Grand Duke George
Mikhailovich
and the 1917-1918 diaries of Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich, and has
contributed two chapters (co-written with Janet Ashton) to "The Grand Dukes."
A
Greek Orthodox Christian and catechist, he enjoys helping non-Orthodox
authors understand Orthodox theology and the profound influence it had
on Russian identity and worldview.
