William Lee is a native of Portland Oregon (USA), and has an MA in Central and East European History and a Ph.D. in Russian History, both from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College, London. His dissertation was entitled “Grand Ducal Role and Identity as a Reflection on the Interaction of State and Dynasty in Imperial Russia.” He has spent many years researching the life of Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich, one of the murderers of Rasputin

William is also working with Prince David Chavchavadze on a translation of the 1917-1918 correspondence of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich and the 1917-1918 diaries of Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich, and has contributed two chapters (co-written with Janet Ashton) to "The Grand Dukes."

A Greek Orthodox Christian and catechist, he enjoys helping non-Orthodox authors understand Orthodox theology and the profound influence it had on Russian identity and worldview.
